A dynamic and engaging roundtable discussion titled Barrier-Free Communication: Creating an Inclusive and Comfortable Environment was held at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation. Participants addressed key issues related to accessibility and comfort for all members of the academic community.

The event brought together distinguished experts in their respective fields:
– Ivan S. Borshchevsky, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Translation Theory and Practice, Institute of Translation, Russian and Multilingual Studies at Pyatigorsk State University, and a specialist in typhlocommentary, audio description, and translation, shared practical insights into adapting public spaces for people with visual impairments.
– Natalia Y. Kolenkova, Associate Professor at Astrakhan Tatishchev State University, inspired the audience with a heartfelt talk on the universal human capacity to feel and think.
– Victoria N. Karpenko, a representative of the Inclusive Education Unit, highlighted effective approaches to creating an accessible university environment, drawing on the experience of her home institution.

The roundtable was followed by an engaging hands-on workshop on typhlocommentary and communication guidelines for interacting with people with visual impairments. Participants gained valuable knowledge on inclusive communication practices, learned the fundamentals of effective interaction, and had the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills in practice.
Particular attention was drawn to the active involvement of students, whose lively discussions, interactive activities, and enthusiastic participation in the workshop made the event especially memorable.

At CITS, we firmly believe that by working together, we can help build a society free of barriers – one in which everyone feels confident, included, and supported.
