On December 17-19, 2024, Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology, Linguodidactics and Translation, Director of CITS Uliana Saveleva participated in the 12th International School of Young Translators of Fiction of the CIS countries Translation as Linguocultural Mediation, which was held in Bishkek Kusein Karasaev State University (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan).

Following the success of the 12th International Symposium on Translating the Literatures of the CIS Countries, hosted by ASU last September, an ASU representative was invited to join the school’s program committee.

The School of Young Translators was organized by Moscow State Linguistic University, ASU’s partner and the designated Centre for Languages and Culture of the CIS Member States. The school was funded by a grant from the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund. This fund supports projects across culture, education, science, cultural heritage preservation, information and mass communication, sports, tourism, and youth work, aiming to foster a shared humanitarian space and intercultural dialogue within the Commonwealth.

Over 250 people participated in the School’s events, including a representative from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science at the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the president of the Union of Translators of Russia, leading translators and translation instructors from across the CIS, and students.

Uliana Saveleva presented a report showcasing ASU students’ poetry translations and highlighted the key activities of the CITS and the university’s Faculty of Foreign Languages. The CITS director also established contacts for future collaborations, including with the dean of the Faculty of Russian Philology at BSU, which also offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in translation.
