On September 26-27, 2024, the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation hosted the 12th International Symposium on Translating the Literatures of the CIS Countries.

The event was held by the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), the Directorate of the CIS Language and Culture Core Organisation, together with CITS and FFL ASU with the support of ANO Institute for Literary Translation under the aegis of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The participants of the event were distinguished experts-translators and interpreters: Dmitry Buzadzhi, Olga Egorova, Dmitry Petrov, Valentin Frolov, Ekaterina Pokholkova, heads of linguistic departments of MSLU, and specialists of CITS and FFL ASU.

The symposium was organized to deepen knowledge about the languages and cultures of the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as to discuss modern teaching and translation techniques. The participants considered a variety of aspects, including intercultural communication, linguistic features and methods of working with texts of various genres.

The Symposium program included many interesting presentations and a series of interactive master classes where students had a chance to try their hand at different translation fields and even learn some useful phrases in Uzbek and Kyrgyz.

Within the framework of the Symposium, MSLU and ASU professors and specialists shared their research and practical experience, which caused a lively discussion among the participants, who actively asked questions, shared their experience and suggested new ways to solve existing problems in translation and interpreting.

This event was a unique opportunity for experts from various fields of translation and interpretation to discuss topical issues related to the languages and cultures of the CIS countries. Such events play a key role in the professional development of future specialists and create an atmosphere promoting the exchange of knowledge and cultural traditions, which is certainly important in the context of globalization.

We express our sincere gratitude to all participants of the Symposium for their active participation, interesting ideas and constructive discussions. We hope that our cooperation will continue and we will realize together new projects aimed at the development of languages and cultures.
