Uliana Saveleva, Head of CITS and Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology, Linguodidactics and Translation at Astrakhan Tatishchev State University, took part in the 14th Annual Seminar Multilingualism in the Work of the United Nations and Ensuring High-Quality Russian Translation.
The event was held on 12 February at the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow and focused on training translators and interpreters for work in international organizations.
The seminar addressed key issues in contemporary translation practice, including the role of multilingualism in the activities of the United Nations, maintaining high standards of Russian translation, as well as the opportunities and limitations of using artificial intelligence in the translation profession.CITS at the UN Information Centre Seminar
Participants included representatives of the UN Russian Translation Services in New York, the Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, representatives of translation faculties from leading Moscow universities, the Director and Honorary President of the St Petersburg School of Conference Interpreting and Translation, as well as representatives of the Russian Translation Company.
Opening the meeting, Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the UN Information Centre, emphasized that multilingualism is one of the fundamental principles of the United Nations. It contributes to preserving cultural diversity, advancing education, and fostering effective international dialogue. Translators and interpreters play a special role in this process as mediators between languages, cultures, and ideas.
Participation in the seminar provided a valuable opportunity for professional exchange, constructive dialogue, and discussion of current trends in the development of the translation industry.
During the seminar, Uliana Saveleva shared practical experience in training translators and interpreters at ASU. She spoke about the educational approaches implemented at the university, the development of professional competencies, and the integration of modern technologies into the learning process. The presentation generated strong interest among participants and became the basis for a productive professional discussion, confirming the high level of specialist training and the university’s significant contribution to the advancement of translation and interpreting education.
